Bread and Butter Farm is a 143 acre working farm is located in Shelburne.  They re-imagine a collaborative working landscape that takes care of the soil, microorganisms, plants, animals, farmers, neighbors, and community that depend on this land. Through this work, they engage all members of the community in real and meaningful ways and provide healthy, ecological food and products as well as joyful experiences.

In addition to the farm families living on and off the land, there are currently three core businesses that operate from the farm: Bread & Butter Farm, Music for Sprouts, and Blank Page Café. There are several enterprises within each of these businesses (e.g. education, Burger Night, vegetables, etc) that, together, support the experiential, educational, and habitat regeneration goals that we share. They also partner with several off-farm organizations, including Nancy Winship Milliken (artist in residence), Wild Faith Herb Farm (herbalism classes), The Schoolhouse Learning Center (Farm Food Forest program), UVM's Farmer Training Program (beginning farmer education), 100 Years of Sun (tree nursery), Vermont Farm Tours (cheesemaking classes), Vermont PBS and the Mister Chris & Friends television show, and others seasonally.

Bread and Butter offers:

  • Summer Camp
  • Village School, a full day, farm and forest based program. Village School is a school year long program offered September - May from 9am-3pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays for kids grades 2-8.

"We had a similar experience with Bread and Butter Farm on their opening weekend as the previous reviewer. The kids had a blast with the animals and the bread was awesome! We are looking forward to hearing more about their upcoming programs for children which hopefully will be offered next year. "

"What an amazing place to spend the afternoon! This farm has the best of both worldsso close to downtownhighway yet you feel like you are in the middle of the country. You also feel right at home as soon as you drive up to the farmstorebakery. We were greeted by one of the cofarmersCoriewho was kind enough to spend quite a bit of time giving me the history of the farm, why she chose this particular area and what the plans are for the future. The plans include an expansion of their current bakery to include an entire children's program complete with music lead by other cofarmer Chris and activities. The bakery is a must seebuilt from the ground up and lead by Adam who actually spent time in Germany learning to bake german style breadthe raisin bread is fabulous! We brought our 15 month old around the farm to check out all the happy animals and stayed for some farmraised burgers. Wonderful casual and inviting atmosphere, we let our daughter just rome and explore the groundscan't wait to go back!"
