Located on the shores of Mallets Bay, the ISSC is a family-friendly place to learn and enjoy sailing. Some of ISSC's attributes include:

  • Personalized attention...less students per boat.
  • On-board instruction...less classroom time.
  • Convenient sailing locations...no wasted access time.
  • Pleasant, dedicated, professional instructors.
  • Free Week of sailing with every course.

There is a five-day or two-day program for children ages 9-17. These courses are available for the beginner, intermediate or advanced sailor. Kids are "teamed up" according to age and skill level. A wide variety of boats are utilized to enhance curriculum comprehension and attention spans. Laser I & II (daggerboard boats), 420 (centerboard boat), Solings (keelboat) and small cruiser 21-22' are available. Kids decide which boats they enjoy sailing the most —"An effective and proven teaching strategy!!"

What You'll Do
A veteran ISS instructor will be on board to coach and critique your child through every maneuver providing valuable one-to-one interaction. Repetitious "hands-on" drills and games will be the norm and 95% of the course is on-the-water.

What You'll Learn

Curriculum will be tailored and customized to create a fun environment. Sessions will cover:

  • tack and jibe with an understanding few sailors attain

  • recover an object lost overboard and how to avoid emergencies and problems
  • learn knots important to the sailor and how to use them
  • introduced to nautical charts, their symbols and abbreviations and how to use the compass

"An outstanding school to learn how to sail! I had always dreamed of learning to sail but it took effort to find the time, commitment and a place where I could learn. Finally took the ASA 101 5 day keel boat sailing class here and it was hard, intense but absolutely tremendous long story short, a few weeks later I joined a community boating program back home, passed the sailing test there in a jiffy and then took out a sailboat by myself, spending 4 amazing hours sailing along Spot Pond in Melrose, MA. I've tried a few sailing classes before this one but they were too short, not thorough enough and there's no way I could have taken a boat out alone after those. International Sailing School was the only one that worked. For that I have to thank my instructors Allen and Francis for their patience and for getting the points across to me. One word of caution if you plan to take this class there are lots of places that will take you on sailboat rides around gorgeous Lake Champlain but this isn't one of them. It's a real class and you'll need to study and come well prepared before your very first class. Robin will mail you the Sailing Made Easy book before the class. Learn the terms very well because you won't have time to think twice on the water when your instructor tells you to head up, pull in the main sheet and go close hauled. Also look carefully at the points of sail, practice figuring out where the wind is blowing from and rehearse the movements you'll need to make when tacking or gybing. This was really an amazing place to learn to sail and I couldn't be happier at my luck in finding International Sailing School."

"Robin and her team of instructors are fabulous. They are very knowledgeable, friendly and fun. My son has been a part of a few camps and lessons and loved it. It's a great spot on the banks of Mallets Bay. "
