"There was a time when I was in desperate need of childcare. I am a single mother and was recently employed. My brother and I had a plan in action, he bailed on me literally the night before he was planning to move in and be my caretaker. Needless to say, I reached out to a friend of mine who suggested I speak with the VNA Family Room Staff and see if anyone there might be able to help me out temporally. I called and explained my situation. I also would like to mention that I have personally volunteered my time there and have hung out there on many occasions where I felt it was good idea to reach out. My daughter and I were familiar and trusted the staff. I received a call back from a woman named, Samantha. She left me a pretty rude message stating that, if she was the mother of my child, she wouldn't just have some random stranger watching her, she'd hire someone that she knew. Basically implying that I am a bad mother and making poor decisions. I was pretty taken back by this comment and further explained that a good friend of mine who has also volunteered there for many months and participated in the program gave me the suggestion. Also, I feel I knew the staff well enough, as well as my daughter, to feel comfortable enough to reach out in the first place! I demanded an apology since I felt she was out of line but never received one. This happened a good 6 months ago. I have no longer felt comfortable going back there due to this incident and refuse to support their program. Later, it came to my attention that VNA does not offer caretaking services in the first place...I wish Samantha could have just stated that and left it at that instead of choosing to put down a hardworking mother who was simply asking for a little help. They've recently have had a huge budget cut and I am choosing not to support their program because I feel there are other programs that deserve the funding more so than this particular program that chooses to speak to and treat their local, struggling families in this manner. I choose to give the VNA 2 stars because I know there are other families that have experienced nothing but positively and support from the VNA, so I'll give 'em that. It's too bad they couldn't be more supportive for myself and my daughter during our time of need. Business Owner's Response 11116 It is the goal of VNA staff to provide the best possible care and support to our clients and community. It is never our intention to cause a person to feel badly or unsupported with their needs. We appreciate all feedback, both positive and negative, to help us learn and improve our programs and services. Our Director of Family and Children's Services is happy to speak with you further about your needs or concerns. She can be reached at 8604420. "I have been bringing my little one to the Family Room since she was an infant for baby massage. Since then we have attended the crawlerswaddlers group on Mondays, family play on tuesday and thursdays and a number of other groups events they offer. Above all their community garden program during the summer is my favorite. This facility is an absolute community jewel. The staff is experienced, consistant and very, very loving. Some of them have been there since they themselves had young children and were a part of the communitiy...where else can you see that kind of longevity? the roots here are deep. I could go on....Best place around to bring young kids and connect with other parents. "

"Infant massage group was absolutely amazing and so helpful to me while on maternity leave. It was great to see other moms and learn to make my baby feel better. I missed this group the most when I went back to work. Nellie is just incredibly nice and sweet person to be around."

"I absolutely LOVE the Family Room!!! We were going everyday of the week! There is always something going on that works for everyone. My daughters and I were going every single day of the week. Whether we were doing Crawlers and Waddlers, Strong Families, or just Family Play, there is ALWAYS something going on that will surely keep your little ones entertained. The staff is absolutely wonderful! They truly go above and beyond to get to know you personally, and things about your kids that only family knows, like which foods they enjoy more than others, or what time they take naps, or which toys they prefer to play with, or even little querks that your kid may have. They are truly unbelievable. I do not know what I would have done had I not found the Family Room. They saved me from losing my mind when my youngest was born 2 months premature and my older daughter was just 20 months. I honestly cannot say enough good things about not only the program itself, but the staff that really makes it what it is. It is just remarkable. My kids had an easier and smoother transition from staying home with me all day to going to daycare and preschool full time because of the caring ways of the Family Room staff. I am forever endebted to them. I truly consider them an extended part of my family."

"The VNA family room is WONDERFUL!!! The staff are great, they make an effort to get to know you and remember you and your child's name. The area where it is held is great, split up into big and little kid areas. The best thing we just discovered is the playdates at the gardens!! All different kinds of people and all different kinds of kids and babies. Love it!"

"The VNA's family room is a life saver! I have enjoyed there services for 5 long but not long enough years. The staff is Wonderful, always willing to go above and beyond. As for the play rooms there are two, one for infants, involving low to the ground play structures soft floor coverings many rocking chairs and cribs for when you have finally rocked then to sleep. The other room for the romping age has a large play structure, a huge sand box, soft mat floor coverings for tumbling or yoga and of coarse art stations. I could go on and on really about how great it is but i will end my review with the ONLY bad thing about the family room.... your kids will eventually grow out of it."

"The Family Room is a program of the VNA's Family and Children's Services. We try to go every Tuesday and Thursday. They have a toddler room and an infant room They also have snacks and sometimes story time. It's free and held at St. Joseph's in Burlington. Their indoor sandboxs and slide came in handy this winter when I needed to keep my toddler busy. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I really enjoyed learning infant massage. They also have a father's and children program that my husband plans on attending. I wish I had discovered them sooner!"
