The mission of Outright Vermont is to build safe, healthy, and supportive environments for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQQ or queer) youth, ages 13-22. Since 1989, Outright has worked to provide safety and support for queer youth, helped make schools safer, and focused on youth empowerment, leadership, and advocacy. Outright is a statewide organization that works with thousands of youth annually.
Some of their key programs for youth ages 13-22 include:
- Friday Night Group (FNG): FNG is Outright Vermont’s signature social and support group for self-identified queer and questioning youth. FNG meets weekly in Burlington and on the 2nd and 4th Friday in Brattleboro and Montpelier.
- Trans Group: Trans Group is open to youth that are trans identified or questioning. Trans group meets on the last Tuesday of every month at 4:30pm at Outright.
- Camp Outright: Camp Outright is open to queer, questioning, and allied youth, ages 13-18. Camp Outright is a traditional, residential summer camp experience and happens in partnership with Common Ground Center.
Some of our key programs for families include:
- Gender Creative Kids (GCK): GCK is a social group for kids under 13 and their parents/caregivers. We loosely define gender creative as kids who fall outside traditional ideas of gender. The group meets once a month on Sundays. Dates are on their website.
- Support Group for Families of Trans Youth: The group will be held on the first Monday of each month from 6:30pm-8pm at Outright and is facilitated by a local therapist. This group is for adults only.
Details about these programs and more are available on Outright’s website.
