The trail starts across the road from the Smugglers' Notch Park visitor center. Look for 2"x6" blue blazes to mark the trail. The trail is about 2 miles on a well-maintained trail towards Sterling Pond. If you hike the loop around the pond, that will add about 1.4 miles to the trek.

Restrooms located at the trailhead in the parking lot.

"This is a steep and relatively quick hike with beautiful views. Definitely worth your effort. "

"We hiked this trail with our family and it was very nice. Keep in mind it is pretty steep and definitely slippery in some areas so you will want to be careful with younger children or older adults. A beautiful view at the top, well worth it!"

"This is a fantastic hike for the family. Any kiddo who enjoys even a bit of hiking will love this one. And it is only one mile to the top albeit a steep mile. The top reminds one of an alpine pond found atop of so many of the western state peaks, but so rare in the northeast. What makes this location extra special is that if you have any fishermen or women in the group, Sterling Pond is stocked copiously every year and also contains a substantial population of native brook trout which is a beautiful and fun fish to catch. As far as hikes that kids can do and will keep them interested, this is one of the best."

"My favorite hiking trail in VT. Easy 1 hour hike that leads to a beautiful pond. Bring lunch and have a picnic on one of the huge rocks that look out over the water."
