The Governor's Institutes of Vermont (GIV) is Vermont's premier academic enrichment program for eager and curious Vermont high-schoolers. GIV offers 10 different Institute topics that span the Arts & Humanities and STEM fields. GIV programs are hosted in-residence on college campuses across Vermont. Students not only get to explore potential career options, but gain valuable experience living on a college campus and taking courses at the collegiate level. GIV is dedicated to being accessible for all Vermont families. We employ a sliding scale tuition model that enables families to pay only what they can afford.

"Our son attended the GIV for IT and Digital Media after his Freshman year in High School and loved it. It was held at Champlain College for 9 days and they lived on campus in one of the newest dorms. The application process, which is done during the spring through your high school, is a great way for kids to get a taste of what applying to college is going to feel like. They have to write a series of mini essays and then get two recommendations from teachers. Once they are accepted into the one of the GIVs they then choose which 'strand' of learning they will work on while they are there. At the IT and Digital Media Institute my son was able to choose from tracks in game design, coding and cybersecurity. After spending time in class learning for the few days they then are paired up into groups to work on a 'project' to create something using what they have learned from start to finish. They then presented their work to all of the parents at the end of the week when we came to pick them up. Aside from the digital tech experience he got, I felt like my son learned a lot about working together in a group, working with a deadline, presenting and more. There were also cool field trips into Burlington to BCA and the Generator space. I highly recommend this program for all HS kids who want to find other kids that are interested in the same subject and in acquiring further knowledge in an academic subject they may pursue in college. My son thought he was really interested in cybersecurity and after spending getting into a bit realized it really isn't for him and actually some of the other IT subjects were. It was a great learning experience. Oh, and my son said they food in the Champlain College cafeteria was outstanding!"

"Our daughter attended the Governor's Institute for the Arts at Castleton State College this summer. Words cannot even express what a great learning adventure she had! Stone carving, puppeteering, and being in a parade are just a few of the varied experiences she enjoyed. I highly recommend this program! "
