Details
Treewild Forest Classroom, located in Shelburne, focuses on nature-based allowing children to deeply engage with their world. Students expand on their math, literacy, and social emotional skills through hands-on activities in the forests, streams, fields, and ponds around Treewild. With one day fully outdoors, students thrive academically, physically, socially and emotionally.
Highlights this year have included learning about erosion by planting trees along a riverbank, building bird houses after studying local bird species, constructing a beaver dam, pressing apple cider and extracting honey from a beehive.
Classes are held on Tuesdays or Fridays for grades k-2 and Wednesdays for 3rd grade and up. Tuition respects the income inequity in Vermont and is on a generous sliding scale. Treewild is led by environmental educator, 30-year teacher, Joplin James.

- September 7, 2021"We feel so lucky to have found this program for our now 6 year old son last year and are so excited for it to begin again. Joplin and Alison have created a simply magical outdoor learning experience and we feel that through this program our son gained so much more confidence in exploring the world around us. This program offers the perfect supplement to round out his more formal public school learning and we know he will have a lasting love of and respect for the natural world because of this experience."- Rachel B
- June 10, 2021"This past year was a heck of a year. Having a 6th grader in school for only 2 days almost all year was not the easiest parenting experience. Finding a place one day a week where he could be outside, explore nature, learn about the world and his own self whole fostering new friendships was the best thing that could have happened for us. He learned so much, made new friend, and even brought home some delicious fresh honey! I will be forever grateful to Alison and Joplin for creating this safe and enriching space that helped us navigate this last school year with a little more joy! Treewild Forest Classroom saved our lives and sanity!"- Lmoran81
