Blackout Poetry Early Release Day Workshop @ Catamount Arts

PoemTown St. Johnsbury, in celebration of National Poetry Month, invites students in grades 5-8 to a special workshop combining words and visual art, at Catamount Arts, on Friday, April 10th. “Blackout Poetry Workshop,” from 1-3pm, invites creative kids to make original poetry and artwork, all in one piece!

Have you ever been tempted to draw on the pages of books? How about cross words and sentences out? Blackout poetry is a process of blacking out or subtracting words from an existing text, revealing a whole new meaning in what’s left behind. In this process, we’re not just allowed, but encouraged to cross words out, erasing small or large fragments of an original text and using what remains to express something entirely new. Then, create artwork directly on the page to illustrate your newly discovered poems.
