Two week-long sessions offered:
Session 1 What’s Cooking: 10AM-Noon
OR
Session 2 What’s Cooking: 1-3PM
Get ready to play with your food! In this week-long camp, kids will embark on an artistic journey exploring the theme of 'food' through various mediums. Using cardboard and paper mache, we'll create 3D representations of food. While our sculptures dry, we'll explore printmaking using real fruits and vegetables to create prints on fabric and paper. After the prints have dried, students may explore adding texture and colors through sewing and embroidery. (This program takes place at the same time as the “What’s Cooking” exhibit in the main floor gallery.)
Students are welcome to bring clothing they'd like to print on directly or to sew on printed patches, although this is optional. Clothing that will be printed on directly needs to be made of natural fibers, like cotton or linen, due to the nature of the ink we are using. Please note that any clothing brought will need to remain at SPA for several days during the printmaking process.
As both paper mache and printmaking can be messy, participants should wear clothing they don't mind getting a little dirty.
